Henry VIII owned more residences than any other monarch in English history. His collection of palaces, castles and hunting lodges came from inheritance, purchase, confiscation and much personal interest in building and rebuilding. Most of these properties today have been altered greatly or even demolished entirely. This site provides an interactive map of 83 houses, great and small, with a short description and a bibliography for each house. The bibliography focuses on primary sources for construction in Henry’s time, with associated scholarly publications, helpful additional web links and some orientation images where available.
